Based in Boscombe, Bournemouth, Grounded Community are a charity with a dream. They want to reconnect people with nature, food and each other by creating a world where all communities have access to locally grown, nutritious food.

Their charity is located in one of the most deprived wards in the country where 47% of children are in poverty. Most of the community struggle with social isolation and poor mental and physical health, meaning that their work often provides a vital lifeline for so many.

Their project focuses on four main areas which are education, community, access to food, and the environment. They supply fresh and locally grown produce to the area while giving people the skills they need to grow their own, helping to build a resilient and collaborative community! They promote sustainability and a connection with nature by using organic regenerative gardening techniques.

Now, just like the plants in their walled garden, they want to grow. They’ve set up a crowdfunding campaign to help them build an outdoor classroom, expand their volunteer programme and continue their ‘Feed Our Community’ initiative which feeds over 1000 people each month.

In their Crowdfunder video, Mike, one of their Garden Volunteers, explained, “I was homeless for 18 years, living in an ASDA car park. It wasn’t a life and I nearly commited suicide. I found out about this place and this helps my recovery so well. I’m nearly a year clean and loving life.”

Having already raised £31,754 of their £40,000 stretch target, it’s clear just how important this small charity is to those in Boscombe. Their project has also received £15,000 in match funding from two of our funding partners. Sovereign Thriving Communities has provided £10,000 and the Power to Change Community Business Crowdmatch has added an additional £5,000!

Their comments section is brimming with support from their crowd, with one person saying, “Great to see Grounded grow over recent years. From an unused plot of land to a terrific initiative using regenerative techniques, redistributing surplus produce to people in need, & supporting the local community. Looking forward to seeing the next steps.”

It’s clear to see why this charity has been inspiring everyone here at Crowdfunder this week and we’re looking forward to seeing the incredible things this charity will do with the money raised from the crowd.
