With the rise of plant-based diets and eco conscious companies, we’ve seen an influx of vegan businesses take to Crowdfunder to gain validation from the crowd.

According to research by Finder,  there are around 1.5 million people in the UK who are currently following a vegan diet. If we widen this to those following a meat-free diet in general (such as those who are vegetarian or pescatarian), then this number increases to 7.2 million.

2021 also saw a record breaking 500,000 people officially pledge to take part in Veganuary. It’s worth noting that the unofficial figure is thought to be much higher! This challenge sees people across the globe following a solely plant-based diet for the first month of the year and often converts many people to follow the lifestyle full time.

But, it’s not just the general population who are looking for ways to change their eating habits. Famous faces such as F1’s Lewis Hamilton and Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley have also been big advocates of the vegan diet, encouraging fans to give it a go.

At Crowdfunder, we’re no strangers to the eco-conscious business. We’ve had everything from zero waste shops to vegan/vegetarian pay-as-you-feel cafes and the support from the crowd is phenomenal! Equally, we’re always on the lookout for ways we, as a business, can improve our impact on the environment. Just last year we partnered with Planet Mark to deliver sustainability funding to entrepreneurs and start-ups. Not to mention our recent Plymouth Climate Challenge initiative which saw three Crowdfunders take part in our virtual LIVE event to win funding for their planet-saving ideas.

We’ve also teamed up with Vegan Business Tribe—a global network offering community and support to vegan businesses. Through Vegan Start-up Scale-up, we’re helping vegan businesses to secure the funding they need to grow and flourish using the power of the crowd.

Co-founder of Vegan Business Tribe, David Pannell, said, “How to raise funds for a vegan business is one of the biggest questions we get asked by our members, especially at the moment when people are having to try out new ideas or pivot to new ways of doing business because of the pandemic – but the thing is, the money is out there. The problem is linking up those people who genuinely want to support vegan enterprises and help them grow with the vegan businesses owners who need to raise the funding. And Vegan Start-up Scale-up is how we’re looking to bring the two together in what is a really difficult time for many.”

There are 17 businesses crowdfunding with the programme so far and there’s no shortage of amazing ideas.

And that’s just scratching the surface of the breadth of ideas getting funded on Crowdfunder.

If you’ve got a vegan, eco-conscious or planet-saving idea that needs funding then we’re here to help! Start crowdfunding, or join one of our free webinars to learn more about how this method of fundraising can help you!
